Custom Publishing
Custom publishing is kind of our main thing.
When we got together in a dreary shopping centre food court in Joondalup for our first ever brainstorm, we had no idea that between us, we’d be responsible for revolutionising the custom publishing industry in WA. Before then, if a business wanted a special publication, some poor sod in marketing would be given the gig. The end result would be a desperate collection of bad fonts, generic images and PR blurb. Not great and no doubt the publication would fizzle quicker than a firework in a bucket.
Our approach to that same brief is what sets us apart. We believe that every special publication is worthy of our love and time. That the finished result is valuable, not disposable. That every brand, destination or business has a story to tell.
Every magazine or brochure has the potential to be seen as an authentic, attention-worthy publication, not just something to be chucked in the bin along with all the other marketing tat that falls out of the newspaper. To achieve this apparent conjuring trick, all we have to do is commission great writers, direct amazing photo shoots, and pull the whole thing together as if it was a gold-standard, paid-for magazine.
And you know what? That approach has won us client after client, who sighed with immense relief that Susan in marketing no longer needed to add ‘Publishing Guru’ to her resume.
We believe that creating a magazine speaks volumes about a brand or destination. We should know. We’ve created some of the most beautiful custom magazines in recent years, from the award-winning Your Margaret River Region magazine for WA’s most popular holiday destination in the south west, to Subiaco: Eat Drink Shop, designed to enliven the best little city centre suburb in Perth. And as each new edition lands in the hands of readers from Broome to Albany, the reaction is always the same.
We call it the Galley Press Effect and it goes along these lines: “Wow! How is this magazine FREE?”
Our secret sauce is that we truly understand the power of print - and more specifically, the power of beautiful design coupled with carefully created original content. After collectively spending more years working on publications around the world than we care to admit, we still get that fluttery feeling when a new magazine peeks out at us. Nothing beats that feeling of picking up a gorgeous magazine in a cafe or hotel room, leafing through the pages, and discovering all sorts of things you never knew about the place you’re about to explore.
